The Return of Jesus



It’s important to understand the characteristics of Jesus’ return since there will be many false messiahs and one in particular who’s able to perform amazing signs and wonders that will deceive the world.
And after He had said these things, He was lifted up while they were looking on, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And as they were gazing intently into the sky while He was going, behold, two men in white clothing stood beside them. They also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven.” Acts 1:9-11 NASB
After His resurrection, Jesus met with His disciples and gave them some instructions before He ascended to heaven. While the disciples were watching His ascension, two angels appeared to them and stated that Jesus would return in the same way in which He left. According to the above passage, that means that when Jesus returns, He will appear in the clouds and then descend to earth.
Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and all the tribes of the earth will mourn over Him. So it is to be. Amen. Revelation 1:7 NASB
This verse reveals the most important identifying characteristic of His return which is “every eye will see Him.” It’s important because the man of sin will have the ability to perform supernatural signs and wonders the likes of which have never before been seen. He will attempt to use that ability to convince people that he is God. Those who know the above verse will know that he is lying because when Jesus returns, every eye will see Him.
Behold, I have told you in advance. So if they say to you, ‘Behold, He is in the wilderness,’ do not go out, or, ‘Behold, He is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe them. For just as the lightning comes from the east and flashes even to the west, so will the coming of the Son of Man be. Matthew 24:25-27 NASB
Jesus makes a point of emphasizing that His return will not be secretive. Regardless of how we understand end time prophecy, we need to be mindful of that one thing. Jesus is God and if you didn’t see Him return with your own eyes, He hasn’t.
